How to Reach Out to Your Old Subscribers Without Sounding Like a Sad Ex

Post by Mitu3120 »

Without a doubt, the saddest feeling on Earth is seeing a notification that someone has unsubscribed from your email subscription list. Before I started personalizing email campaigns, this happened to me almost every email campaign.

The first step is to understand the obvious. The obvious is that you shouldn't wait months for a new subscriber to join before you even send them anything. At that point they won't even remember you. The key is to hook a new subscriber and get them interested in what you have to say.

The second step is to make the effort and reach out to them. Here's what I did:

The last time I switzerland customer email list had an unsubscribe, I messaged the person (I already had their email) and just sent them a quick note saying I was sorry to see them go and asking if it was because the content wasn't what they thought it would be.

And here's why this is a simple and brilliant approach:

It only takes a second to do so. It creates a personal connection that allows me to step behind the email marketing curtain – making me more real to the person and perhaps making the fact of the cancellation louder. And gaining valuable information.

This person hadn't even noticed that they were no longer subscribed (which got me wondering how many other people had done the same thing, and there's a problem with the placement of the unsubscribe button - maybe its placement makes it too easy). These are constant, hectic, and important questions that will help you keep your email marketing game sharp.

The second piece of valuable information I gained was how he felt about the brand and why he loved it. We ended up having a little chat about why he was drawn to the brand and how he finds value in it. This gives me immense insight that helps me gauge what I'm doing right to keep him on track.
