The year 2019 began with the shocking news of large-scale staff cuts at major US ad-revenue-based media outlets such as The Huffington Post and BuzzFeed. Social media, which was their mainstay, is also shifting in a closed direction due to growing calls for stronger privacy protection. Meanwhile, media outlets that are steadily growing through email distribution have begun to appear.  Morning Brew, launched by Alex Lieberman in 2015 while he was a university student, is an emerging news media that mainly distributes news via email. It currently has over 1 million subscribers, has raised seed funding worth 75 million yen, and is aiming for a Series A round in 2019.

 Morning Brew was created after CEO Lieberman asked his friends how petroleum manufacturers email lists they got their business news, and they told him they subscribed to the Wall Street Journal but didn't have time to read it all .

 Morning Brew is published with the goal of presenting business news in a fun, engaging, concise and easy-to-read manner .

 The history of Morning Brew began with a PDF file attached to an email. When it was launched in 2015, I continued to run it while working at Morgan Stanley, and in 2016 I left Morgan Stanley and started running Morning Brew full-time with Austin Leaf.

 As mentioned above, the initial focus was on university students, but now the demographic of participants, 70% of whom are on average 28 years old and working in finance, technology or consulting.

 As its name suggests, Morning Brew is a media outlet that delivers news to readers via email every morning at around 6am. In February 2019, the number of readers reached 1 million.

 Considering that the number was 200,000 a year ago, it shows that the number of newsletter subscribers has grown at an astonishing rate. The most recent average number of new newsletter subscribers per month is 120,000, and the average open rate is over 45%.
