First financing part is crucial for success
Philanthropic crowdfunding campaigns generally take longer than investment crowdfunding. The number of weeks needed to raise the first and last 25% of the funding does not differ much. It is often thought that once the first 25% of the funding has been subscribed, the full funding will be reached more quickly. However, research by crowdsourcing.org shows that this is not the case (see table below). However, reaching the first part of the funding is crucial for the success of a crowdfunding campaign; unsuccessful campaigns remain stuck at less than 25% of the target amount (Sanfillipo, 2011).

Applications
pebble kickstarterCrowdfunding is used for a variety of activities and sectors. Pebble's campaign is undoubtedly the best known: for the development of the watch, on which you can use apps and receive messages from your iPhone or Android, some 25,000 people have together financed an amount of more than $10 million. In addition to product development and start-up entrepreneurs, crowdfunding is also used by cultural organizations. For example, more than €50,000 has been raised for the renovation of the painting 'Napoleon's Entry into Amsterdam' in the Amsterdam Museum, with 2 donors having already financed €33,000 together .

Charities (NGOs) have also discovered crowdfunding. In England, the Cancer Research Institute has its own crowdfunding platform called ' MyProjects ' to raise funds. They are following in the jamaica phone data footsteps of Obama, who raised $100 million for his presidential campaign in 2008. But the English football club Ebbsfleet has also used crowdfunding. More than 50,000 members each paid £35 and together bought the club for £1.75 million. Lesser-known examples are the crowd mortgage , debt restructuring or financing of medical treatments.

Crowdfunding the golden egg?
As the size of the target amounts increases, crowdfunding becomes an alternative to existing forms of financing such as subsidies, loans and equity provided by business angels or venture capital companies. And certainly now that subsidies are reduced and banks and other capital providers are becoming increasingly critical about providing money, the importance of crowdfunding will increase.
