Writing tip #24: Writing is work

Post by Mitu100@ »

Writing tip #23: Separate the processes.
Clearly separate your research from the writing process. Don't jump back and forth, otherwise you'll waste a lot of mental energy. If you write, then write. If you research, then research. And very importantly: forget the "delete" key when writing. It only comes into play when editing.

Even if you don't make money from blogging (yet) , take writing seriously. Be reliable, write daily, stop messing around. Your muse is your boss and if you do a bad job, she'll fire you. Seriously, if you neglect writing, your inspiration will go down the drain.

Writing tip #25: Follow through.
Don't edit your text while you're writing. Once you've started writing, finish it. Write until you run out of steam. You can always improve your text later. If you're constantly deleting and australia phone number list editing your text, you'll never get past the first page. You'll be like a karate fighter who's constantly kicking himself in the balls.

Writing tip #26: The first draft always sucks.
Don't let the little things hold you back when you're writing your first draft. You can always correct or look up dates, names, or quotes later. You can fix mistakes and inconsistencies later. But finish that draft. Accept that the first draft is just a draft. A pile of crap is better than a pile of nothing.
