As you know, the Internet today is full of lackluster content with over 7.5 million blog posts being published every day. So, if you want to stand out and grab your audience's attention, you embracing new tools and techniques need to publish content that is not only of the highest quality but also in line with the needs and desires of your target audience.

You can conduct social listening and competitor research, but the best way to learn about your audience's preferences is to ask them directly. That means creating a short, formatted survey and sharing it via email newsletters and social media. Place it on your website, too. Encourage more responses by offering an incentive (like a discount or free trial) in exchange for completing the survey.

Then, update your content strategy based on what you learn from surveys and research. Go beyond blog posts — infographics, videos, podcasts, etc. — to engage your new audience, as not everyone enjoys reading long articles.

Some people might enjoy listening to your articles on the go, while others might enjoy watching short videos on the same topic, so adapt your content into different formats to get the most out of each piece.

If you’re into B2B, publishing highly researched, backed up content and insights like white papers, case studies and webinars is a great way to go.

#3 – Genuinely engage with your audience on social media
As a brand, social media allows you to engage with your customers in a more “human” way.

You can ditch the formal communication methods (e.g. via email or phone) and have a more informal way to engage with your customers. Respond to comments and inquiries in an informal but helpful way. Use emojis and slang to talk like a real person.

This makes your brand more friendly and approachable.

Drive more conversations with your customers by asking them to comment directly, like “Let us know your favorite __” or “What’s your best advice about __?” in your photo captions, or even commenting on your followers’ posts can spark huge engagement.

When potential customers encounter your genuine and entertaining social media conversations, they are more likely to follow you and even see you as superior to your competitors.
